Frozen Banana & Peanut Bites

So, I’m feeling a little like I am always starting my posts with an apology. I’ll get it over with really quickly. The blog has been put on the back burner the last month/few weeks. Things have been chaotic in this house hold, I won’t go into it, but it’s all very exciting, but very stressful. Anyhow I’m back today with a super easy peasy recipe, if you can really call it that. I’ve seen this idea on Pintrest and Youtube, so thought I’d give it a whack. So, without further waffle lets get started…

What You’ll Need:

IMG_3170

* 1 Ripe Banana

*Dark Chocolate

*Nuts of Your Choice (optional)

*Nut Butter of Your Choice (I’m using Pic Peanut Butter But Almond would work great too)

*Baking Paper

Method:

banana bites

1. Melt your dark chocolate in the microwave in 30 second increments, alternatively you can do this using a double boil method on the stove top.

2. Whilst the chocolate is melting, chop your banana into small slices

3. Place a dollop of your nut butter of choice on top of the banana. If you’d prefer, you can leave this step out.

4.Place a slice of the banana on top to make a little sandwich.

5. This is where it gets a little messy. Place a sheet of baking paper on a tray or plate and put your banana sandwiches on top. Pour your dark chocolate onto the banana, so that they are covered evenly.

6.Add the topping of your choice, this is also optional. I decided to put some chopped walnuts on mine, but you could also use almonds, sprinkles or coconut flakes, the skies the limit with these.

7. Finally place in the freezer for at least 1 hour.

You’re left with these gorgeous little bites. When the banana freezes it take on a ice cream like consistency and creaminess. If you close your eyes you pretend that this sweet treat is a lot more naughty than it really is. I feel a little bad making this into a recipe as it is incredibly easy, but they are so yummy I couldn’t keep these to myself.

Thanks so much for reading.

Stay Cool,

Youtube Exercise Challenge Day 4

So you’re probably wondering why I am only on Day 4? It was the weekend and even though I did complete my 20 minutes of movement, I decided to get out of the house and go for a few walks get some fresh air and make the most of the beautiful weather. It is now the dreaded Monday again and I’m back to it with the challenge. This morning I was in the High Intensity Interval Training kinda mood, so this is the video of choice.

What You’ll Need:

Just yourself, a bottle of H2O and maybe a yoga mat

Skill Level: Beginner/Intermediate

Sweat Rating: 5 out of 5 (see below picture)

Fun Rating: 3 out of 5

Quick Fit Summary:

This isn’t the flashiest of videos, it is basically just the instructor in her home, with her dog. BUT boy oh boy does she get you working. I’ve even inserted a lovely sweaty picture of myself 10 minutes after just to prove how much this video gets your heart pumping. H.I.I.T is great for burning calories and getting that big workout in, in a short space of time. The moves are pretty easy to follow along and I like the instructors emphasis on watching your form. However I’m not going to lie and there were a few moments where I had to bring it down to my level. I also can’t lie and have to confess that the very last set of burpees were sat out by me, I just couldn’t do it. I’ve rated it only a 3 for fun, as I really don’t enjoy H.I.I.T very much, even though I know it’s a great work out.

Stay cool everyone and Enjoy the week ahead,

Day 3 Youtube Exercise Challenge

Today brought a well deserved day off from work. It was also a day of big grown up decisions, therefore I felt the need to channel my inner Queen B diva and do a little booty shaking for Day 3 of this Youtube Challenge. I even slapped in a hair mask, for extra diva style. You can check out days 1 and 2 if you like.

What You’ll Need:

Just you and your bootay, oh and maybe an empty house if you get a little shy like moi.

Skill Level: Beginner/Intermediate

Sweat Rating:4out of 5

Fun Rating: 4 out of 5

Quick Fit Summary:

This routine is pretty SEXY. If you’re a little shy like I am, I would probably save this one for when you’re home alone, as I had my wonderful boyfriend come home mid butt wiggle. It’s relatively easy to follow along with and the instructor is such a babe. Although I would hate to see what I actually looked like, because in my head I’m killing it like Beyonce. It definitely gets the heart rate up, and I would maybe recommend this for a day when you’re feeling like something a little less intense. The only downside is the video is only 10 minutes long so, I just repeated it twice and I found that by the second time I was obviously a bit more co-ordinated. Pop Sugar is a really amazing channel that does lots of different types of workouts with varying  levels and styles, so I’m pretty sure they will be popping up again in the challenge.

Enjoy your Friday everyone!

Stay cool,

Day 2 Youtube Exercise Challenge

This morning I felt like doing a little cardio mixed in with the dumbbell weights I’d just bought. So again after a quick search on this is the video that kicked my butt this morning.

What You’ll Need:

Dumbbell weights (mine are 2kg each but I’m thinking I’ll upgrade to 5kg)

Skill Level: Beginner

Sweat Rating: 4 out of 5

Fun Rating:3 out of 5

Quick Fit Summary:

This is another great beginners video. Again the music is pretty cheesy as is the instructor, but the moves are easy enough to follow. It really gets the heart rate pumping and there were a few times where, because I am such a novice I had to slow it down a little. Definitely recommend if, you are like me and have only just got back into some kind of physical activity. The video is only 23 minutes so it is also perfect for those of you with limited time (I’ve been crying through the 2 hour series finale of Dawson’s Creek) Well until tomorrow,

YouTube Exercise Video Challenge

I think the titles pretty self explanatory, however I will delve a little deeper and explain myself. I had this wacky idea to try out a new work out video each day for the month of October. But then being realistic I knew I soon would stumble, so I made the goal a bit more suitable to my disposition. I’ve; on this very day started a fit 24 challenge at work. This entails going sugar free, getting 7 hrs of sleep and doing at least 20 minute of exercise a day for 24 out of the 30 days. It’s a team effort so I really can’t let the side down. Therefor, for my 20 minutes of exercise I thought I would try a new YouTube exercise video for those 24 days. The only rules I’ve set out for myself is that the video needs to be no less than 20 minutes long (with the exception of repeating a shorter video) and no longer than an hour.

That massive explanation out of the way I’ll jump into today’s video.

What You’ll Need:

A Mat (yoga one works perfect)

A Resistance Band

Skill Level: Beginner

Sweat Rating: 3 out of 5 ( More than a light glow)

Fun Rating: 4 out of 5

Quick Fit Summary:

I can’t lie this was my second time completing this video, mainly because it’s one of the first that pops up in the search. It’s a fun upbeat video. The instructor explains each move in the sequence clearly and there are a number of different moves to keep anyone with a short attention span motivated. She runs through everything one time and then you repeat the moves again with a little cardio burst at the end. You do need equipment for this video, but I got my band and mat both from Kmart and they were a real steal. I like to do a video that requires equipment as it mixes things up a little and means that you can focus on toning and sculpting, as they say.  This video got my heart rate pumping and I know I’ll definitely be feeling it in the morning. Cheesy music aside this is a pretty good stater video for those of you who have just purchased your first resistance band like moi.

Peanut Maple Granola Recipe

Since I haven’t done a recipe since my Heart Warming Chicken Soup post, I thought I would mix it up and show you one of my all time favourite breakfasts. This Granola is super easy to make, will last for around 3-4 weeks in an air tight jar (If it even lasts that long) and its pretty darn healthy. So with all that said and done here’s how to make it…
IMG_3145What you’ll need:

  • 2 Tbsp Honey
  • 2 Tbsp Maple Syrup
  • 1/4 cup Pic’s Peanut Butter Unsalted
  • 2 Tbsp Chia Seeds
  • 1/2 Tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 Tsp Cinnamon
  • 1.5 cups of Wholegrain Oats
  • Pinch of Salt
  • Sprinkle in your favourite nuts and seeds, I use a mixture of Pumpkin seeds, Walnuts, Slivered Almonds, Sesame Seeds or feel free to pop some Goji Berries or Dried Cranberries.

Method

Preheat Oven to 180 Fan

  1. Mix the Honey, Maple Syrup and Peanut Butter in a microwavable bowl. Once mixed well microwave for 20 seconds and stir again.
  2. Add in the Chia Seeds, Vanilla Extract, Cinnamon and the salt and stir well.
  3. Place the wet ingredients into a larger bowl make sure to use a spatula to get as much of the mixture out into the new bowl. Add in the oats, make sure to add a little at a time, to ensure the oats are covered completely with the wet mixture.
  4. Next add in your desired extras. If you find it’s a little dry add in a little more Honey and Maple syrup to the mix.
  5. Spread the mixture evenly over a baking tray covered in baking paper.
  6. Place in the oven and cook for 15-20 mins, turning the granola over half way through. Be sure to keep and eye on it as it tends to burn pretty fast.

IMG_3148 IMG_3151

So there you have it! I like to have mine with unsweetened natural yoghurt, chopped pears, grapes and strawberries and a little drizzle of honey. It would also be amazing as a parfait, in a cute glass with lots of yummy berries in between. Enjoy with a glass of coconut water and you’re set for the day.

Let me know if you try this

August Monthly Beauty Favourites

Yes, Yes I know I haven’t blogged for a little while now, but life has unfortunately got in the way as it sometimes does. However, I’m back and as a new month has begun (I can not believe it’s September already) I thought I would begin with what I was loving in the past month.

Now this month I’ve managed to narrow it down to 6 items in total, 5 of which I absolutely adore, one that I am firmly on the fence about.

IMG_3133First up is the CHI CHI Fabulous and Flawless Foundation. I was all in a panic when I ran out of my all time fave L’oreal True Match, as here in NZ it is ridiculously over priced. So I thought it was time to move on and try something else. After watching a favourite foundation video from Shannon of  Shaaanxo fame, she recommend this foundation and I’m so glad I tried it. I got the shade No.7, which is great for me and my post winter skin. It’s medium to full coverage, with a sheen like finish to it. Price wise it is around $39 NZD, which I felt isn’t too bad and the container is glass, which for some reason I find really satisfying.

IMG_3129Next up is the Yes to Carrots Nourishing Daily Facial Moisturiser SPF 15. I have been using this for around two months now and I obviously love it. It is, as it states very nourishing, but doesn’t leave my skin feeling oily. It has a built in SPF which makes me feel better especially when you live in NZ. It also hasn’t caused me to break out which is a massive thumbs up. I just picked this up in the supermarket and I can’t wait to try out some more in the range very soon.

IMG_3135Thirdly in the top favourites of the month, comes and oldie but a goodie. Maybellines Great lash Mascara in the Lots of Lashes formula. I first tired this version of  the cult classic mascara about two and a half years ago, when I first moved to NZ, after needing a mascara that wasn’t going to break the bank and it was love at first application. It has a teardrop shaped tapered wand, which is excellent for creating both length and volume. It also means you can use the narrow end to get those pesky inner corner lashes. This is now back in my life after my Collection Mascara dried out, which is one massive downside of that amazing mascara (man how many times can you say mascara in one paragraph)

IMG_3137 To be completely honest, I wasn’t entirely sure if this was going to make the cut this month, but recently it’s been my eyeliner of choice. The Benefit They’re Real Push Up Liner, bar the really long name does just what it says on the tin. The funny shaped applicator really does pull your lashes up, allowing the gel liner to really get deep into the lashes, so that you are left with this beautiful opaque line. I also love the angle of the applicator, because it makes the dreaded feline flick a real doddle. The pigmentation is great with a true deep black shade and the longevity is awesome, no smudgy panda eyes up in here! All in all a pretty impressive gel liner, gimmicks aside.

IMG_3139Lastly in my most loved items this month comes another old favourite. After having a huge clear out of my make up collection, I came across this little gem; the Nars Angelika Blush.I’m a huge blush person, I just feels like it gives my skin life and I love me a Nars blush, in fact I’ll even go as far as to say they are my holy grail when it comes to blush. This is a baby pink shade with flecks of silver glitter running through it, which doesn’t thankfully transfer onto the cheek, it just provides a beautiful sheen. If you’re looking for something peppy and perky then this may well be the match for you, layer it on top of a similar cream formula shade for a doll like fresh faced cheek.

IMG_3142Very finally I thought I would just add this baby into the mix as I’m very much on the fence about it. It’s the Body shop Instablur all in one perfecter. The reason that I’m on the fence about this is actually because I’m just waiting for it to fully break me out, I’ve noticed a few blemishes popping up. It has that silicone type texture akin to the likes of the SmashBox Photo Ready Primer, which doesn’t react well with my skin. It does however, mattify my skin and fill in the pores, which for me is a huge plus. Weather it actually does help my foundation last longer is still on trial and the jury is definitely still out on weather or not it’s giving me that blurred like effect that seems to be so popular at the moment.

So everyone there you have it, what I’ve been loving this month. I hope this has been helpful in same way for you all, let me know what it is you’ve been loving this month. Once again I apologise for being M.I.A.

Stay Cool
