The Sunday Summary

Sunday Selfie

As I write this technically its Saturday, but this is one post that I want to keep as a constant on my blog. The Sunday Summary, will basically be a summarisation of my week, what I’ve been up to, what I’ve been trying to achieve and what I’ve been loving. More on the lifestyle side of blogging. I also on consultation with Chris (and of course Sebastian) thought I’d include a Family Portrait or Sunday Selfie as I’ve decided to call it. This isn’t just for your entertainment, but I managed to wrangle Chris into it, by telling him that it would be a great way for us to watch us change.

So without further ado let’s get into this.

This week has seen some new adventures for me. The biggest one being this blog. As scary as it was it, I honestly feel so excited, inspired and motivated. I’ve already made a HUGE list of future post ideas and content that I hope you all will enjoy. I also started a Facebook page dedicated to this blog. So if you’ve amazingly managed to stumble across this not through Facebook, definitely check it out here. I’ve had lots of support so far and it’s been so awesome. I’m thinking the next step as I grow a bit more is to include twitter and Instagram to the fold. What do you reckon?

I also think I’ve already found a use and also a new D.I.Y project for the left over fabric from my chair post, so keep an eye out  for that.

TV has been a huge player in our week. To be honest I love nothing more than spending the day sitting in my pjs and catching up on TV…Chris not so much. However, this week I’ve manage to get him to sit down with me and relax and enjoy a little telly (I think it also helps that I’ve lost my voice, because I’m sick so, he doesn’t have to listen to my commentary). We just finished the first season of Resserection. I’ve got to say I really enjoyed it. The plot kept me interested and constantly guessing what was going to happen next. They managed to build some strong characters, that had you really rooting for them. Whilst Wikipedia-ing it (my favourite thing to do when watching TV) I realised it was based on a book called ‘The Returned’ and that there is a very similar French series called ‘Les Revenants’, that we might try. If you haven’t caught the trailers cut a long story short; small town middle of no where America, the dead start returning and well, raising a lot of questions to say the least. I would highly recommend it. It got both of us pondering about what would we do if someone we loved returned. What would you say? What kind of questions would you ask?. Very, very much looking forward to season two now. To fill the void we’ve just begun watching Fargo. I think I’m really going to enjoy this one. It’s quite graphic so do be warned but I’m intrigued to see where it’s going to go. Plus it’s had some outstanding reviews.
Honourable mentions:
*The Only Way Is Essex; I’m sorry but I spent the whole of my teens and early twenties in this glamorous county, I can’t help myself!
*Real Housewives Of Orange County Season 9; no excuse really. I just love me some trashy telly.
*Nashville; brings out that inner Country Music lover in me that I try and suppress, bring on Season 3. I’ve already got my cowboy boots at the ready.
*Game Of Thrones; I know I’m a bit late on watching the final episode of the season, but boy this show has certainly reinvented the meaning cliff hanger TV.

We also took a visit to The Alice Cinematheque, on Tuam st, here in Christchurch. If you’ve been in Christchurch prior to the earthquake you’ll know the place, if not, you definitely have to check it out. It’s a boutique cinema, with what I can only describe as a cheesey-chic vibe to the decor. It’s has an Egyptian theme, big comfy red chairs and the best Ice Cream EVER! Whilst the average age is about twice mine, it’s definitely a quirky option for ‘date night’.Check them out here. We saw an Irish film called Calvary. It certainly was a dark comedy which, had me laughing and crying. If you enjoyed The Guard then you might like this.

Speaking of Tuam St, we also checked out a cafe called C1 Espresso. Which happens to reside right next to the Alice Cinematheque. On recommendation from a few friends, we tried out the Chai Latte. This is their own special blend and was probably more on the spicy side, rather than the sweet. But was pretty good, I still think Coffee Culture do the best. We also had the Chicken Nachos and this unusual White Chocolate Lamington, with Lemon curd that came in a syringe for you to inject into the Lamington (Pictured below). It was super busy. I feel like it’s the ‘place of the moment’ here in Christchurch. It had some really cool quirky touches, for example an old Singer sewing machine that you turn and water came out, and the roof was covered in shoots that certain meals would be shot over in. Overall vibe was pretty cool, however its was pretty expensive for what it was. I’ve linked them here, if you fancy checking it out.

On the beauty front this week, it’s been a bit poor to be honest. I’ve had quite a bit of downtime from work as my days off have mostly been grouped together, and I’ve been on call. This has meant that, I haven’t needed to wear much, if any make up. In fact I didn’t leave the house for 3 days (not sure if I should be saying this). I have however have been enjoying my skin care routine at the moment and can’t wait to share it with you. Big shout out to the return of the Hot Cloth Cleanser to my life, boy have I missed you; post coming soon!

Sebastian’s weeks been, well pretty non eventful. He’s mostly looked cute, slept and clawed us. The weather here has amped up into full on winter mode which, in turn means we one have an inside cat, who runs outside quickly to do his business and then is straight back in, under our heat pump. This too means he’s becoming one fat cat, that we’ve now had to put on a portion control diet.

On the old health and wellness front. As I mentioned earlier, I got sick. Actually I’m still sick, so sick I’ve had to break my no sick days at work record today. I haven’t been taking the greatest care if my body since I finished the 17 day diet (post to come) and something I really want to focus on and get a handle on is making these ‘diets’ not just a faddy thing but a real lifestyle change. I mean, you’ve got to be able to indulge, but what I need to learn is to just have a slice not the whole cake!

We also had a Mid Winter Christmas Meal at a friends house. It felt just like Christmas. Even though I am a Kiwi and have had numerous Summer Christmas’, I’ve also spent the other half of my life in England having Northern hemisphere Christmas’. Our Friend is from America, so we had the pleasure of trying Egg Nog for the first time and boy was it delish. It was so lovely to catch up with friends, eat good food and  have a laugh. We also played an interesting game of Secret Santa, which involved being able to steal other peoples gifts!

So that’s really our week in a nutshell/big huge essay. The week ahead see’s my baby brother and his girlfriend coming up to Christchurch, which is always lovely. My dad also arrives from England for a holiday, which is always exciting.  I’m hoping too that next week will be the start of my healthy eating and exercise regime (she says whilst eating Caramello Chocolate) and that there are no more colds, flus or bugs to catch, I’m so over it!  What have been the highlights of your week?

Thanks again for you’re support and for reading!

Have a great week ahead everyone 🙂

About me

A life that’s good…

So, why am I here? why did I decide to venture into the realms of blogging?

Actually this is my third venture into blogging, which you can both read and look at below (get excited). I had started a Youtube channel many many moons ago (almost 5 years to be exact) and unfortunately due to many different reasons, I just could never EVER keep up and keep it flowing. I also tried to keep it as secret as possible as I was so scared of people thinking it was silly or a joke. And no I’m not saying that this whole Blogging world is going to be any easier, I mean who knows if anyone is even going to read this, but its is for me, far more convenient. Having a blog means I don’t have to sit in the most awkward positions, in the most awkward angle just so I can get the right lighting for my video. You can basically blog anywhere and thats what I love about reading blogs as 9 out of 10 times there’s always lots of fun new content.

I had started a blog to coincide with my YouTube channel at the time, but I was so hopeless with that one and I left it sad and neglected, but if you would like a good laugh you’ll find it here it features 1 post of embarrassing photo’s and an a-hmm old boyfriend haha . I promise I’ll be a better with this one.

Anyhow I really did not mean to make this a ramble of a first post, although if you stick around you’ll soon notice that I do love a good old ramble or a waffle as many of my English teachers used to comment. I wanted to just say Hi and explain where I’m hoping to take this blog.

A life that’s good is actually the title of a song from one of my favourite telly programmes of the moment and I just thought it fits perfectly with everything I want this place to be about. I first started my Youtube channel focused on all things beauty as that is what I love, as a trained make up artist and addict. However as I’m getting older, my interests and hobbies have evolved and changed as my life changes. I love health and well being and any new fad that comes along with this. I’ve also seen myself giving the old Do It Yourself a try recently and wanted to share some tips and tricks that I’ve learnt along the way and also get some much needed advice as I am renowned for winging things.

I’m hoping this blog becomes a place where people can come and read and share and learn. I know these interests to some may seem ‘fluffy’ but to a big community out there it can be the hobby that keeps you going and the perfect escapism.

So, In a nutshell this is what I aim to achieve with this blog, I’m a little nervous about putting myself out there but whats life without a little bit of fear. So stick around and follow Me, My Boyfriend Chris and Our Cat Sebastian ‘Monkey’ (as pictured above, because who doesn’t love a cute cat picture) as we try and obtain A Life That’s Good.
