The Lust List

The Lust List

Now I don’t know about you but, when I was little one of my all time favourite things to do was, get the Toy World Catalogue that would arrive in the post and circle every single toy I was lusting after. Then I’d very strategically place it under my Dads (cause he was the sucker) pillow. I still love nothing more than to write a big list of all the items I’m drooling over.

So I thought that every now and then I’d whittle it down to the top ten items and share it here with you all, so here we go.

Item No 1.

nike-free-4.0-flyknit-womens-running-shoes-side

Nike Free 4.0 Flyknit RRP $199 .99 NZD available here

Not only do these look so comfy, I also think they look pretty darn cool too. I really have to blame Anna from Viviannadoesmakeup for me lusting after these. Every time she styles them in a blog or video she looks so cool, that I really want to give them a try. She also did a handy dandy post on how to style these babies, which I’ve linked above. They would be a little out of my comfort zone and general style, but I’m getting to the age were I think I need to wear something a little more sensible than ballet flats.

Item No.2

whistles

Whistles ‘Limited Marcella Large Pouch’ RRP £75 available here

Another one to blame on Anna’s blog. Whenever I watch her or read her posts she seems to have a new Whistles Bag on the go. I also have a wee browse on the website, well more like dream. This bag caught my eye a while ago, and now its even on sale, so this dream could become a reality. I love how unusual the style is and this shade of green is my favourite. It’s definitely an item I can see me rocking in the spring/summer months.

Item No.3

carolinne-04.02.14-aj9374_5

MissGuided ‘ALEENA EYELASH LACE PLUNGE NECK PUFFBALL MINI DRESS IN BABY BLUE’ RRP $59.98 NZD available here

I saw this dress on Instagram and haven’t stopped loving it since. I love the colour, the neckline with the lace detail and how floaty and princess like it is. My only reserves with splashing out the cash and buying this dress is a) I already have a million and 1 party dresses and b) The length; Sadly I wasn’t genetically blessed with skinny legs and being a curvy girl I don’t feel entirely comfortable in a short hemline.

Item No.4

ASOS Flutter Sleeve Wrap Maxi Dress in Mint RRP $100.33 NZD available here

Yes, Yes I know its another dress, but just hear me out. Well firstly just look at it. This dress is like a modern day Helen of Troy (minus the whole waring cities and stuff) mixed with a fabulous 1940’s tea dress vibe. And there goes that mint green again. I guess I really am trying to wish this winter away. Not going to lie I’m not the biggest fan of winter, give me bright sunny days, any day.

Item No.5

ROBERTS Revival iStream 2 Internet DAB/FM Radio, Duck Egg. RRP £199.95 available here

And we’re half way there, Boy oh boy, I have wanted, no wait dreamed about getting my paws on a Roberts Radio for years. And this one is right up my street, in fact the colour even matches my car! We have an open planned kitchen and living area of our house, and I thought this would look perfect on the kitchen counter. I love the fact that it’s digital and not only does it allow you to stream music from your computer or phone you can also access Spotify on it. I want this in my life so badly. I’ve already planted the seed in Chris’ brain, so let’s see what happens. I’ve got my fingers and toes crossed on this one.

Item No.6

Tiffany Infinity Pendant, RRP $200 USD available here

I don’t know many girls who don’t dream about one day receiving a Tiffany Blue box. This would be what I would like to find in mine. I’m not much of a jewellery wearer, actually I hardly own any Jewels. But it doesn’t stop me from putting this on my list. I love how fine and dainty looking it is, I know big chunky statement necklaces are the big trend at the moment, but something like this is way more my style. On the website they also have a handy emailing service that will drop just the right hint to your loved ones. Chris has already had his delivered to his inbox.

Item No.7

S0245700_1

Kiehls, Creme de Corps Soy Milk &Honey Whipped Body Butter RRP$62NZD available here

It wouldn’t be right to do the Lust List and not add a beauty product. This Whipped Body Butter by Kiehls would be perfect for me right now as I’ve just come to the end of my Body Shop Body Butter in Cherry Blossom. I’ve heard nothing but good things about this product. From the smell to the texture it appears that you can’t really go wrong. This is very quickly becoming a hot contender for my pay day splurge.

Item No.8

NMC1FC2_mx

Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede Candle RRP £40 GBP available here

If you haven’t had the pleasure of smelling this you really need to get your toosh down to a Jo Malone stockist, quick smart. I purchased the Cologne in this fragrance when we went back to the UK. It is now my all time favourite perfume and one I will definitely repurchase, time and time again. So it makes perfect sense that I’d be lusting after the candle. In actual fact I’m kicking myself that I didn’t just buy this, along with all the other products in the line. Oh well, there’s always christmas or my birthday (hint hint loved ones haha). But on a serious note, if you like a floral scent you’ll love this.

Item No.9

download

The Fault In Our Stars Paperback or Kindle Version available here

There has been so much hype around this book, especially as it’s recently been released at the cinema. I however, am yet to see the film as I wanted to pick this up first. I’m one of those, like many out there who; have to read the book before watching the film. Whilst I write this I think I’m just going to purchase it on my kindle app on my ipad today. I guess the sooner I read it  the sooner I can get to commenting on how the book is always so much better.

And Finally… Item No.10

7151_Pillows_KingAndQueen_1024x1024

Black, pink, or orange crown pillowcases by Collected RRP$60 NZD for 2. available here

Last but by no means least, I first laid eyes on these gorgeous pillow cases in a magazine. I loved them so much that I noted down the website and took a look as soon as I could. At $60 they are a little on the pricey side, but they look like so much fun and good quality. I just need to get Chris on side with these and I think they’ll be mine!

Well my friends this leads me to the end of my current Lust List. I can not tell you how hard it was to narrow it down to ten, so there will most definitely be another post or two to come. Also for any of my family out there, who are probably the only ones reading this, I’ve just made you an awesome gift guide for me, so go nuts ( that’s you Mum and Dad!!)

Thanks for  Reading,

The Sunday Summary

The Sunday Summary

Sunday Selfie

As I write this technically its Saturday, but this is one post that I want to keep as a constant on my blog. The Sunday Summary, will basically be a summarisation of my week, what I’ve been up to, what I’ve been trying to achieve and what I’ve been loving. More on the lifestyle side of blogging. I also on consultation with Chris (and of course Sebastian) thought I’d include a Family Portrait or Sunday Selfie as I’ve decided to call it. This isn’t just for your entertainment, but I managed to wrangle Chris into it, by telling him that it would be a great way for us to watch us change.

So without further ado let’s get into this.

This week has seen some new adventures for me. The biggest one being this blog. As scary as it was it, I honestly feel so excited, inspired and motivated. I’ve already made a HUGE list of future post ideas and content that I hope you all will enjoy. I also started a Facebook page dedicated to this blog. So if you’ve amazingly managed to stumble across this not through Facebook, definitely check it out here. I’ve had lots of support so far and it’s been so awesome. I’m thinking the next step as I grow a bit more is to include twitter and Instagram to the fold. What do you reckon?

I also think I’ve already found a use and also a new D.I.Y project for the left over fabric from my chair post, so keep an eye out  for that.

TV has been a huge player in our week. To be honest I love nothing more than spending the day sitting in my pjs and catching up on TV…Chris not so much. However, this week I’ve manage to get him to sit down with me and relax and enjoy a little telly (I think it also helps that I’ve lost my voice, because I’m sick so, he doesn’t have to listen to my commentary). We just finished the first season of Resserection. I’ve got to say I really enjoyed it. The plot kept me interested and constantly guessing what was going to happen next. They managed to build some strong characters, that had you really rooting for them. Whilst Wikipedia-ing it (my favourite thing to do when watching TV) I realised it was based on a book called ‘The Returned’ and that there is a very similar French series called ‘Les Revenants’, that we might try. If you haven’t caught the trailers cut a long story short; small town middle of no where America, the dead start returning and well, raising a lot of questions to say the least. I would highly recommend it. It got both of us pondering about what would we do if someone we loved returned. What would you say? What kind of questions would you ask?. Very, very much looking forward to season two now. To fill the void we’ve just begun watching Fargo. I think I’m really going to enjoy this one. It’s quite graphic so do be warned but I’m intrigued to see where it’s going to go. Plus it’s had some outstanding reviews.
Honourable mentions:
*The Only Way Is Essex; I’m sorry but I spent the whole of my teens and early twenties in this glamorous county, I can’t help myself!
*Real Housewives Of Orange County Season 9; no excuse really. I just love me some trashy telly.
*Nashville; brings out that inner Country Music lover in me that I try and suppress, bring on Season 3. I’ve already got my cowboy boots at the ready.
*Game Of Thrones; I know I’m a bit late on watching the final episode of the season, but boy this show has certainly reinvented the meaning cliff hanger TV.

We also took a visit to The Alice Cinematheque, on Tuam st, here in Christchurch. If you’ve been in Christchurch prior to the earthquake you’ll know the place, if not, you definitely have to check it out. It’s a boutique cinema, with what I can only describe as a cheesey-chic vibe to the decor. It’s has an Egyptian theme, big comfy red chairs and the best Ice Cream EVER! Whilst the average age is about twice mine, it’s definitely a quirky option for ‘date night’.Check them out here. We saw an Irish film called Calvary. It certainly was a dark comedy which, had me laughing and crying. If you enjoyed The Guard then you might like this.

Speaking of Tuam St, we also checked out a cafe called C1 Espresso. Which happens to reside right next to the Alice Cinematheque. On recommendation from a few friends, we tried out the Chai Latte. This is their own special blend and was probably more on the spicy side, rather than the sweet. But was pretty good, I still think Coffee Culture do the best. We also had the Chicken Nachos and this unusual White Chocolate Lamington, with Lemon curd that came in a syringe for you to inject into the Lamington (Pictured below). It was super busy. I feel like it’s the ‘place of the moment’ here in Christchurch. It had some really cool quirky touches, for example an old Singer sewing machine that you turn and water came out, and the roof was covered in shoots that certain meals would be shot over in. Overall vibe was pretty cool, however its was pretty expensive for what it was. I’ve linked them here, if you fancy checking it out.

On the beauty front this week, it’s been a bit poor to be honest. I’ve had quite a bit of downtime from work as my days off have mostly been grouped together, and I’ve been on call. This has meant that, I haven’t needed to wear much, if any make up. In fact I didn’t leave the house for 3 days (not sure if I should be saying this). I have however have been enjoying my skin care routine at the moment and can’t wait to share it with you. Big shout out to the return of the Hot Cloth Cleanser to my life, boy have I missed you; post coming soon!

Sebastian’s weeks been, well pretty non eventful. He’s mostly looked cute, slept and clawed us. The weather here has amped up into full on winter mode which, in turn means we one have an inside cat, who runs outside quickly to do his business and then is straight back in, under our heat pump. This too means he’s becoming one fat cat, that we’ve now had to put on a portion control diet.

On the old health and wellness front. As I mentioned earlier, I got sick. Actually I’m still sick, so sick I’ve had to break my no sick days at work record today. I haven’t been taking the greatest care if my body since I finished the 17 day diet (post to come) and something I really want to focus on and get a handle on is making these ‘diets’ not just a faddy thing but a real lifestyle change. I mean, you’ve got to be able to indulge, but what I need to learn is to just have a slice not the whole cake!

We also had a Mid Winter Christmas Meal at a friends house. It felt just like Christmas. Even though I am a Kiwi and have had numerous Summer Christmas’, I’ve also spent the other half of my life in England having Northern hemisphere Christmas’. Our Friend is from America, so we had the pleasure of trying Egg Nog for the first time and boy was it delish. It was so lovely to catch up with friends, eat good food and  have a laugh. We also played an interesting game of Secret Santa, which involved being able to steal other peoples gifts!

So that’s really our week in a nutshell/big huge essay. The week ahead see’s my baby brother and his girlfriend coming up to Christchurch, which is always lovely. My dad also arrives from England for a holiday, which is always exciting.  I’m hoping too that next week will be the start of my healthy eating and exercise regime (she says whilst eating Caramello Chocolate) and that there are no more colds, flus or bugs to catch, I’m so over it!  What have been the highlights of your week?

Thanks again for you’re support and for reading!

Have a great week ahead everyone 🙂

D.I.Y Fridays

D.I.Y Friday… A Chair So I Can Sit And Do My Haiirrr

IMG_2055

As the title suggests, I’ve decided that Fridays are going to become the day that I post my latest D.I.Y conquests. This is the very first D.I.Y  I’ve attempted since year 12 art class (don’t ask).  I love custom furniture. However, the price tag that comes along with these one off pieces you’ll find on sites like this, don’t really fit into our ‘supposed to be saving for a house’ budget. So I thought to myself it can’t be that difficult, can it? I’d also seen my friend in real life Stace do this on her blog here. So go grab yourself a cuppa as this is a long one.

After consulting with my Mum, who had numerous D.I.Y projects on the go when I was little. She suggested that I start small and work my way up. I’m not much of a whizz with the sewing machine (unlike my amazing Grandmother) so I wanted to avoid sewing anything. I trawled through Trade Me (NZ version of Ebay) for the right chair. I managed to win this one for a mere $10 NZD and it went to Nurse Maude Hospice, a charity shop and organisation very dear to my heart, so it felt like fate.

I completed this project nearly a month ago and I hadn’t completely decided I was going to start a blog, which means I haven’t photographed the process very well (sorry). So with the photos that Chris; my other half took on my phone and some pictures I’ve managed to scrape together I’m going to try and explain how I achieved this.

First things first, Mum you were right!. This was the easiest way to start my journey into D.I.Y and upholstery. Sadly, like I said earlier, silly old me didn’t take a picture of what the chair looked like before I ripped it apart. But trust me when I say it wasn’t pretty or that interesting.

IMG_2077

Fabric; Bolt Of Cloth, RRP $40 NZD

I knew that I wanted a bright fabric and that I wanted the top half of the chair to be white, to match the little table Chris had made me. I also knew that I wanted to incorporate a bright colour on the legs to add a little je ne sais quoi. I headed to my local Bolt Of Cloth. I could spend all day in that shop, the fabrics and other little bits and bobs they stock make me all tingly with D.I.Y excitement. Check them out here . I found this fabric pictured above in the $40 fabric bin and knew straight away it was perfect. It’s called Birdlife in Purple and Pink by a Japanese designer called Echino, I’ve managed to find the link here to the exact fabric.

IMG_2078

Dulux Paint in Napier (Test Pot size) and Dulux Wash and Wear in Vivid White (Left Over from Chris’ Desk Project) Both available in store at Mitre 10

Next Step was to match the paint. That part was easy because we still had some leftover white paint from the desk Chris had made for me. I’d recommend using a low sheen acrylic paint like this, especially if you’re going to add another brighter colour on top. The Legs were a little harder. I knew I wanted to go with a colour that was already within the fabric to tie everything together. Off to the local hardware shop we went and as if by magic, I took one look at the colour sample cards and there it was. The perfect match for the hot pink in the fabric. This Dulux paint in the shade Napier. The guy in the paint department recommended just getting a test pot size and that was more than enough.

IMG_2082

Heavy Duty Staple gun Aprox. RRP $29.80 NZD, Mitre 10 and Rapid Staples 10mm

This item didn’t excite me that much, but boy did Chris get excited when he heard I required a staple gun for this project. We sussed out we needed a heavy duty gun in order to fasten the fabric to the wooden seat securely. This one was reasonably priced and did the trick. We also went for 10mm staples but maybe could’ve opted for something a little thicker as, a few of the staples did bend out of shape. We also purchased some more Sandpaper, which I haven’t bothered taking a picture of as we all know what that looks like. But I used a fine and medium sandpaper for this project.

IMAG0992

Me, Sanding the chair by hand. Please ignore our messy garage!

On to the actual process and I’ll stop bleating on. I, unscrewed the seat from the chair by using a screw driver, which was really easy. Once that was off I then took a pair of pliers and a flat headed screw driver (is that what they’re even called?) and went about taking out the existing staples. I say I but Chris was a massive help with removing and attaching the fabric. I then used the existing seat cover as a pattern for my fabric, as pictured below.

IMG_2093

This photo was taken after I’d finished, but you get the drift. Plus here’s a shot of the ugly green velvet.

The foam that was under the old fabric was in great condition so there was no need to replace this. The next step was much easier than I anticipated (especially as I has an extra pair of hands) the easiest way to describe this without photos is that you basically approach it as if you were wrapping a present. We took it side by side. So, I held the fabric taught as Chris stapled. When we reached the front corners of the seat, this was a little more difficult and I’m kicking myself that I didn’t take pictures as an aid to show you. As the front two legs of the chair sit higher, the seat cover had indents where the seat would slot in around the legs. I’ll insert a picture below of what I’m talking about.

IMG_2070.jpgThe way to approach this one is by folding and stapling and keeping it really tight. I really do recommend getting someone to help you with this as it can get a little tricky. After that I the used the same piece of hessian type fabric that came with the chair (as pictured above) to cover the inside of the chair and make it look a little neater. This was really easy as, it was already a part of the original chair so, all I needed to do was reattach it.

IMAG0989On to the sanding, my Favourite part…NOT. I hated this part as I’m a real instant gratification kinda gal and I just wanted to get painting. I even tried to convince Chris that we needed to invest in an electric sander. Anyhow I did it. I really only sanded it back to get the top layer of varnish off. If you are going to sand by hand, I would recommend investing in an electric sander… no just kidding, I’d recommend getting one of those sanding blocks just to save your poor little hands. I used the medium paper first and then went over it with the finer one to make the base more even for the paint to be applied.

IMAG0995

After the second coat of white paint

My Granddad is a Painter by trade and therefore my mother, his daughter didn’t really let us touch paint when I was younger. This means that whenever I can get my hands on paint, I get super excited. This part is pretty self explanatory. Only little piece of advice I would have would be light layers and build on them, to avoid the dreaded drip of paint mark. I ended up only applying two coats of the white base. I made sure to sand lightly with a fine sandpaper in between coats.

IMAG0997

First coat of pink on the legs

The next part was even more fun. I couldn’t wait to get the pink on. This again is pretty self explanatory. The only little hiccup I had here was that,  Sebastian likes to follow me around and see what I’m doing, ALL THE TIME. You know the whole ‘curiosity killed the cat’ saying. Well in this case it should be ‘curiosity painted the cat pink’. Sebastian decided when I wasn’t looking to make his way into the garage and jump up on the wooden horses the chair was on and rub up against it. Which then resulted in me chucking him into the sink and dousing him in lukewarm water. He certainly learnt his lesson, especially as he had to rock pink tinged whiskers around the neighbourhood. Thankfully both the chair and Sebastian managed to survive this ordeal. Back to the chair, I was going back and forth between whether or not to take the pink right up the back of the rear legs. However, I wanted to keep the majority of the chair white and in hindsight I’m happy I did leave it. The pink paint did need two coats again as it was quite sheer.  Again I sanded (Joy) between coats of paint.

Once they were dry it was time to pop everything back together which was super easy. In terms of drying time, it was really quick each layer probably only took an hour max to dry. I decided to to put a top coat on the chair and keep it matte as I just prefer that look personally.

So, here it is the final product. I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out. It’s definitely given me a taste of D.I.Y and I’ve already purchased my next chair, so watch this space. I’m also thinking I’ll either attempt to make a lampshade with the left over fabric or some cushions if I can brave the sewing machine.

I hope this was helpful, I know it was probably a little long, but hey that’s my style. Let me know what you think and any suggestions or ideas or projects you’ve got on the go now!

Once again Sebastian was really helpful
